Who Am I?

I’m Lauren, and I love books. I love them so much that every nook and cranny of my house is filled with books. I’m always thinking about the perfect word and I like to psychoanalyze things (read: books). A LOT. I guess you could call me an armchair psychologist for books.

What are my favourite books?

When I love a book, I read it over and over again, just so that I can stay in that world a little bit longer. I’ve read Tamora Pierce’s Wild Magic series at least a hundred times. Nimona by Noelle Stevenson, The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness and Carry On by Rainbow Rowell are some of my favourite worlds to escape into.

Why the Novel Shrink?

I want to know what makes those books tick, so I’m going to do my best to find out the science behind what makes us shiver with fear when we read a good Stephen King book or swoon when we devour yet another delicious Charlaine Harris series. Why is it that we root for a good protagonist? What is it about our brains that lets us live in the fictional world as if it were our own?

Let’s find out, together.

  1. Hi there! This probably seems a bit out of the blue, but I’ve enjoyed your posts, so I’ve nominated you for the Liebster Award. (The details are on my blog in the post about the award.) You don’t “have” to participate – I just wanted to recognize yours as an enjoyable blog!

  2. I see you write “It got me thinking” here as well– was there cheesecake and 30 rock involved? 😉

“A Considerable Speck” is one of the first poems I read by Robert Frost and one of my favorites of his. I love that you’ve based your blog around it.

  3. I really enjoy reading on this website, it holds great articles. Don’t put too fine a point to your wit for fear it should get blunted. by Miguel de Cervantes. dbgfdcecfgbe

  5. May I simply just say what a relief to find a person that genuinely knows what they are discussing online.
You certainly understand how to bring a problem to light and make it important.
A lot more people really need to read this and understand this side of the story.
I can’t believe you are not more popular because you surely have the gift.

  6. “I’m Lauren, and I love writing in the margins with pencil, because writing is a conversation. ” -> YES, YES & yes 🙂
